GET THE SIZE RIGHT

Prepare Images for Every Layout

Image dimensions determine how wide and tall a picture appears in a digital layout. The right pixel measurements help you prepare graphics for websites, profile photos, online forms, presentations, and social media placements without relying on guesswork.

Use this free browser-based editor to inspect the original size, enter a target width and height, and preview the resized result before saving it. Keep the aspect ratio locked for proportional resizing, or unlock it when a layout requires independent dimensions.

UNDERSTAND THE BASICS

Image Width, Height, and Aspect Ratio Explained

Image dimensions are the pixel measurements that describe a picture's width and height. An image measuring 1200 × 800 pixels is 1200 pixels wide and 800 pixels tall.

Aspect ratio describes the relationship between those two values. For example, 1200 × 800 has a 3:2 ratio. Maintaining that ratio helps prevent a photo from appearing unnaturally stretched.

Pixel dimensions are not the same as file size. A resized image may use fewer or more kilobytes depending on its format, image content, and compression settings. If your goal is a smaller download, resizing alone may not be enough.

For a practical reference on how image resolution and pixel dimensions work, read the MDN guide to HTML images.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Image Dimensions FAQs

Helpful answers about pixel sizes, resizing, quality, and privacy.

What are image dimensions?
Image dimensions are the width and height of an image, usually measured in pixels. A 1200 × 800 image is 1200 pixels wide and 800 pixels tall.
How can I check an image's width and height?
Upload your picture to the editor above. The tool reads the image's pixel dimensions in your browser and displays the original width, height, and aspect ratio.
Can I resize an image to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Enter your target width and height or choose a preset. Keep the aspect ratio locked for proportional resizing. If you unlock it, you can set both values independently, but the image may look stretched.
Will resizing reduce image quality?
Reducing dimensions removes pixel detail, so enlarging the image later may look softer. JPEG and WebP compression can also affect visual quality. PNG is often preferable for graphics that need lossless output.
Are pixel dimensions the same as image file size?
No. Dimensions describe width and height in pixels. File size describes how much storage the image uses, usually in KB or MB. Format, compression, and image complexity also affect file size.
Does this tool upload my images?
Image decoding, resizing, previewing, and export are handled in your browser. The script does not send image data to a DoMorely processing server. Your browser or installed extensions may still affect local file handling.
Which image formats can I use?
The tool accepts common image types when your browser can decode them. JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF support can vary by browser. Animated formats are processed as a still image; animation is not preserved in the resized output.
Can I make an image smaller without cropping it?
Yes. Keep the aspect ratio locked and reduce the width or height. The other dimension adjusts proportionally, so the entire image remains visible without cropping.
